“Got Talent” producers tick Mongolia off the bucket list
The Got Talent franchise is heading to Mongolia.
Mongolia’s Got Talent is due to premiere on Mongol TV sometime in 2015, fulfilling Got Talent judge and executive producer Simon Cowell’s wish during his MIPCOM keynote that the Asian country would eventually lose its status (pictured above) as one of the last territories in the world that had not succumbed to the reality TV juggernaut.
The Mongolian broadcaster inked a multi-season deal for the talent competition format with producers Syco Entertainment and FremantleMedia. Mongol TV also acquired the eighth season of Britain’s Got Talent.
“When I heard Simon Cowell at MIPCOM saying that Got Talent had to be in Mongolia, I immediately decided to rise up to the challenge,” said Mongol TV CEO Nomin Chinbat in a statement. “Mongolians are great entertainers and this format is a great fit for Mongol TV. I now challenge Simon to join us in Ulaanbaatar in September when we launch the series.”
“Mongolia is one of the last countries in the world to have Got Talent on air so I’m absolutely delighted Mongol TV will be making the show next year,” Cowell added. “So thank you and Congratulations Mongolia.”
The deal brings the total number of local versions airing around the world to 67 and the total countries in the world to air a version of Got Talent to 193.
In 2014, Got Talent launched in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Iceland, Mexico and Myanmar. According to a map representing the franchise’s global reach (pictured), Luxembourg, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Swaziland, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Japan and North Korea are currently Got Talent-less.
