Russia, Mongolia to strengthen relations in various sectors

ULAN BATOR, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday held talks with his Mongolian counterpart Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj on strengthening cooperation in various sectors.

"Bilateral relations between two countries are possible to be further expanded in all spheres, such as humanity, agriculture, trade and economy," Putin said during their talks.

At a press briefing after the meeting, President Elbegdorj said he and Putin exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, transportation, investment and world and regional affairs.

In his speech, Putin said there are wide opportunities to import big volumes of meat and animal husbandry products from Mongolia.

Following thier talks, the presidents attended the signing ceremony of 15 documents, which includes agreements on visa-free travel of the citizens of the two countries, strategic partnership between railway autorities of the two countries and Russia's military-technical assistance to Mongolia.

Before concluding his working visit, Putin laid a wreath at the statue of Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov to mark the 75th anniversary of a Soviet-Mongolian victory against Japanese troops at the battle of Khalkin Gol at the start of World War II, and had a banquet with war veterans.
