Interview: Factories dumping untreated waste in Tengger Desert

An investigative report in the Beijing News says a number of chemical plants are continuing to dump untreated waste in the Tengger desert, in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Q1: The Tengger desert pollution was reported four years ago. The local government responded by shutting down some factories. But now, the environmental crisis seems to be escalating. Some people say the local government and enterprises are seeking profits at the cost of ecological environment. What’s your take?

Q2: In response to the desert pollution issue, local government officials say there are shortcomings in their supervision system. How can supervision be strengthened?
