Iran freestyle team wins Asian Wrestling Championships

The Iranian men's freestyle team completed its domination of the 2014 Asian Wrestling Championships on Thursday. Iran took six gold medals of eight weight categories to capture the team title with 70 points.

The Mongolian team finished in second place with 63 points. Kazakhstan came third with 51 points.

The 2013 world bronze medalist Masoud Esmaeilpour beat Indian Bajrang Kumar in the 61kg and claimed the gold medal.

Kazakhstan wrestler Daulet Niyazbekov and Mongolian Narmandakhyn Lkhamgarmaa jointly seized the bronze medal.

Ahmad Mohammadi won a gold medal in the 65 kg after defeating North Korean Kang Jin-hyok. The bronze medal went jointly to Furkat Farmanov of Uzbekistan and Mongolian Batchuluuny Batmagnai.

Mostafa Hosseinkhani beat Somirsho Vokhidov from Tajikistan in the 70kg and seized the gold. Bronze medal went jointly to Japanese Ken Hosaka and Ikhtiyor Navruzov from Uzbekistan.

Reza Afzali bagged the gold in the 74kg. The Iranian wrestler beat Purevjavyn Onorbat from Mongolia in the final match. Ryoichi Yamanaka of Japan and Innokenti Innokentev from Kyrgyzstan claimed the bronze medal jointly.

Meisam Mostafa Jokar beat Aslan Kakhidze of Kazakhstan in the 86kg and won the gold. Mongolian Orgodolyn Uitumen and Rashid Kurbanov from Uzbekistan won the bronze jointly.

Komeil Ghasemi defeated Natsagsurengiin Zolboo of Mongolia in the 125kg and clinched the gold medal. Bronze medal went jointly to Chinese Shang Hai and Daulet Shabanbay of Kazakhstan.

President Hassan Rouhani sent congratulation messages to the freestyle wrestling team and the Iranian people.
