Female Chinese Director's Film Entered in Tokyo International Film Festival

The Chinese film To Live and Die in Ordos, directed by female director Ning Ying, was successfully selected for the main competition of the 26th Tokyo Film Festival, held in October 2013. The film didn't win Best Picture, however actor Wang Jingchun took home the Best Actor Award.

The mainland premier of To Live and Die in Ordos was held on March 18, 2014.

To Live and Die in Ordos was the only Chinese film out of a total of 1,400 to enter the main competition of the film festival.
    
To Live and Die in Ordos is about a courageous policeman in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, who is enthusiastic about life and brings a strong sense of rigid morality to his work. And the film has received praise for its impressive, poetic imagery and unique narrative style.
  
To Live and Die in Ordos is based on the true story of Hao Wanzhong, a heroic policeman in China who sacrificed himself doing his duty, and left 64 volumes of his diary behind after his death, upon which the film is based.

Lu Wei, the film's associate screenwriter, said: "Director Ning Ying is one of the few directors in China who have very strict requirements on the professional level of the films."
