Otley student Robert's 16,000-mile Mongolian adventure

An Otley student is part of a two-man team about to set off on a 16,000-mile fundraising trip.

Robert Templeton and fellow University of Bath undergraduate Jack Eddy are undertaking the famous Mongol Rally – in an underpowered old car that cost less than £200.

Competing as The Mongol Marauders, the pair will set off in July on a trip the organisers describe as thousands of “miles of feral, unsupported adventuring chaos from the UK to Mongolia in cars the size of a lawnmower”.

Robert, who is studying aeronautical engineering, and Jack, a civil engineering student, are making their task even harder by also driving back again.

They are aiming to raise at least £1,000 for charity from the adventure, with half of that going to their chosen cause – Help for Heroes – and the other half to the event’s nominated charity, Cool Earth.

They chose Help for Heroes as Robert’s father was a TA orthopaedic surgeon, who completed a number of tours, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
