Mongolian producer to feature an adaptation of ‘The Adventures of Buratino’

Portal television studio is producing a children`s television series based on an adaptation of “The Adventures of Buratino,” also known as “The Golden Key,” a short story by Russian writer A.N.Tolstoy.


Directed by N.Soyolbat, “Buratino” will feature a young talented actor B.Altangerel starring as the main character, Buratino and M.Nyamdorj as the father of Buratino, Carlo. Camera work has started and it is expected to be finished on April 20.

The Adventures of Buratino is familiar to Mongolian audience as there were numerous books and plays popular in Mongolia during the Soviet era. The studio wants to make Buratino, a character that is given lessons through numerous adventures, a feature. The Adventures of Buratino was adapted from the fairy tale of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi.

Buratino is the main character of the book “The Golden Key” by A.N.Tolstoy. Based on the 1883 novel “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi, Buratino originated as a character in the comedy. The name Buratino is derived from the Italian burattino, which means wooden puppet or doll.

The book was published in 1936, and Buratino quickly became hugely popular among children in the Soviet Union, and remains so to this day. The story has been made into several films in 1959 and in 1975.
