TERRORISTS’ ACCESS TO EXPLOSIVES FOCUS OF OSCE DISCUSSION IN MONGOLIA

A roundtable meeting on hindering terrorists’ access to explosives through better control of explosive chemical precursors of legal use by industry and agriculture took place in Ulaanbaatar on 29 November 2013 with OSCE support, and financial assistance from the Australian government.

The event brought together 38 experts from Mongolian state institutions and the private sector who discussed with experts from Spain and United Kingdom their experience in using legal tools and mechanisms to enhance the control of those substances.

“Preventive measures reduce the chances of a terrorist attack taking place. Thus the main objective of this event is to raise awareness of the risks and to share experiences on preventing use of explosives for terrorist purposes within the international legal framework against terrorism,” said Manuel Marion from OSCE Transnational Threats Department.
