President initiates a National consultative meeting
President Elbegdorj Initiates a National Consultative Meeting “From a Big Government to a Smart Government”.
Striving to effectively and timely address the challenges and pursue optimal solutions, on November 16, 2013, Mongolian decision-makers, government officials, business representatives, media, academia and NGO leaders will convene in the Government House for forging a national consensus on the way Mongolia is to live heading toward 2050.
Having successfully accomplished political and economic transformation some 23 years ago, Mongolia today has reached a point where necessary adjustments and refinements are needed to fine-tune the country’s political, economic and social institutions to provide for inclusive and sustainable development and lasting social cohesion. In essence, Mongolia is to draw a roadmap to follow in the coming few decades. This exercise starts with the National Consultative Meeting, which is the first of its kind event and is initiated by President Elbegdorj.
The participants of the National Consultative Meeting shall engage in debates and discussions about how far Mongolia is looking into her future, how well we are cognisant of our strengths and weaknesses, how cautious Mongolians are about past mistakes not to repeat. The meeting shall also clarify the roles, mission and mandate the political, economic and social players are to bear in the country’s development.
The National Consultative Meeting shall start with the remarks of President Elbegdorj on the needs for a smart government for Mongolia to aspire progress and development. Following the presentation, the audience will be divided into 5 groups – Decision-makers, Local Governments, Media, Academia and NGO, and the Businesses to explore, discuss and reach a common stand on Mongolia’s development agenda in separate and concurrent sessions. The work of the 5 sub-sessions shall be reported by the moderators at the Plenary, which will be concluded by President Elbegdorj’s concluding remarks.
The five sub-sessions shall be conducted by Chatham House Rule and will be moderated by Prime Minister, MPs, Chief of the Office of the President, Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat, Mayor of Capital city Ulaanbaatar, Rector of the Mongolian National University and the President of the Mongolian Journalists’ Union.
Media is invited to the Meeting not to report and broadcast, but to represent the Fourth branch of governance, as we often address it. For it is one of the active shapers and shakers of the social mind, media is expected to play a crucial role in delivering the policies of the smart government to the public.
The National Consultative Meeting shall start at 2 p.m. on November 16, 2013, in the main hall of the Government House.
