Burkhan Khaldun announced as National heritage site
The Government of Mongolia has publicly announcement that the Burkhan Khaldun Mountain, from this “National Pride Day on November 4th, is registered as a National heritage site.
Burkhan Khaldun Mountain was held sacred from ancient times, from the times of Bodanchar, the great ancestor of Khiad Borjigon, to the time of Chinngis Khaan. The Mountain became the symbol of the spirit of the Great Mongol State.
It is believed that in those times, the settlement or camps of ordinary people at the head of the three rivers and near Burkhan Khaldun was heavily restricted by State law.
The long running traditions passed from Mongolian generation to generation was halted during the 1920s due to political propaganda influenced by communism. But local people and noble people alike held the tradition in their hearts to protect and worship the Mountain until this day. In 1995 the State Ceremony to worship the Spiritual Mountain was recovered again.
From 2012, the birthday of the Great Khaan began to be observed nationally as National Pride Day annually on the first day of the first winter month according to lunar calendar.
Now the Government has announced Burkhan Khaldun as a National heritage site in order to raise public awareness of the great history and culture of Mongolia as well as to promote protection of Mongolian culture and heritage.
