PREMIER N.ALTANKHUYAG RECEIVES SICHUAN GOVERNOR

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ After being welcomed at the Capital international airport of Beijing by both countries' officials, the Prime Minister of Mongolia N.Altankhuyag with his cortege headed to Sichuan province, and received the province governor Wei Hong there.

When arrived in Sichuan as a key guest for the 14th Western China International Fair in the province's Chengdu city, Mr Altanhuyag first received the Sichuan governor Wei Hong.

"Annual Western China International Fair under the co-sponsorship 12 provinces (autonomous regions, municipality) and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Government is an international cooperation gathering, which serves as an important platform for the opening-up of China," said Mr Wei Hong. The event, which has grown into a regional exposition, invites foreign state or government leaders every year, he added and thanked the Premier of Mongolia for receiving their invitation to the 14th Western China International Fair as a key guest.

During the meeting, the governor requested Mr N.Altanhuyag to support cooperation and investments between Sichuan province and Mongolia, and expressed his province folks' truly gratitude for Mongolia's humanitarian aid to the province, that included receiving sixty children, who were affected by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

"Mongolia is willing to cooperate with and learn from Sichuan province, that has a high economic growth, abundant natural resources, and leading agricultural industries," said the Premier. "Thus, we give a great significance to the Western China International Fair and are attending it with a high number of representatives".

Constructive and efficient cooperation could be established between Sichuan and a Mongolian city, said N.Altanhuyag, expressing a readiness to negotiate over this kind of cooperation. As Sichuan is a big market for international investments, "we have great opportunities to work together in many sectors, using our full capacities", the Premier noted.

Sichuan has been historically known as the "Province of Abundance". It is one of the major agricultural production bases of China. Grain, including rice and wheat, is the major product with output that ranked first in China in 1999. Commercial crops include citrus fruits, sugar cane, sweet potatoes, peaches and grape seeds. Sichuan also had the largest output of pork among all the provinces and the second largest output of silkworm cocoons in China in 1999. Sichuan also possesses China's largest proven natural gas reserves, although the majority of which is transported to more developed eastern regions.

Great strides have been made in developing Sichuan into a modern hi-tech industrial base, by encouraging both domestic and foreign investments in electronics and information technology, machinery and metallurgy, hydro power, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries.
