Three Star crash out

KATHMANDU: Laxmi Bank Three Star Club crashed out of the AFC President’s Cup despite battling to a 1-1 draw against Erchim FC of Mongolia at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka, Malaysia today.

Skipper Enkhjargal Tserenjav put the Erchim ahead early in the eight minute and despite dominating the game the Lalitpur-based A Division champions found the equaliser in the first minute of injury time through Zikahi Leonce Dodoz. It was a miserable performance from the Nepali club who also suffered a humiliating 6-0 drubbing in the first match against Balkan FC of Turkmenistan on Monday.

Balkan are in pole position to qualify for the final as they lead the Group ‘A’ standings with three points. As Three Star were eliminated after collecting one point from two matches, Erchim still harbour hopes of making it to the final by defeating one of the tournament favourites Balkan in the last game of the group. Three Star had defeated the Erchim team 2-0 in the Qualifiers held in Kathmandu in May.

It was only the second participation of Three Star in the third-tier AFC tournament since making it to the semi-finals in the inaugural edition held in Kathmandu in 2005.
