MONGOLIAN DELEGATION TAKES PART IN SESSION OF IAEA GENERAL CONFERENCE

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A delegation of Mongolia participated in the 57th annual session of the IAEA General Conference ran September 16-20 in Vienna, Austria.

Led by Mr G.Batjargal, the Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Ambassador to Austria, our delegation comprised N.Tegshbayar, head of the Agency of Nuclear Energy (ANE).

Mr Batgargal gave a speech at the Conference’s general debate, noting that Mongolia celebrates this year its 40th anniversary of joining the IAEA, and expressed thanks to the IAEA on behalf of the government for rendering assistance and support which are contributing the socio-economic development.

Mongolia adheres to a policy on non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons and on disarmament in frames of its foreign policy, Mr Batjargal noted, and then emphasized an importance of fortifying the IAEA mandate for stopping nuclear tests, prohibiting nuclear weapons and combating illegal ownership and transport of nuclear materials in order to ensure the international and regional peace and security.

On September 20, the Mongolian delegation met with Mr Yukiya Amano, the IAEA Director-General.

At this meeting, Mr Tegshbayar conveyed greetings of the Mongolian leaders to Mr Amano on the 40th anniversary of the Mongolia-IAEA cooperation. They shared views on short- and middle-term collaboration between Mongolia and the IAEA.

Remembering his visit to Mongolia in 2010, Mr Amano applauded the renovation of capability and techniques of nuclear technology laboratory in Mongolia, and underlined an importance for Mongolia to join some international conventions for expanding the nuclear security.

In addition, the delegation met with authorities of the IAEA Departments of Technical Cooperation and of Nuclear Security and Protection. The IAEA’s side has expressed a satisfaction with implementation of projects in Mongolia between 2012 and 2013.
