To celebrate Nauryz (Nowruz), a holiday observed by the Kazakh people every year on March 22, the day of the spring equinox, a ceremony and exhibition were held at Sukhbaatar Square yesterday. President Ts.Elbegdorj participated in the event.

The Chief of the Standing Committee on State Structure and the Chief of the Bayan-Ulgii Province Local Council (BPLC), A.Bakei, welcomed President Ts.Elbegdorj to the “Nauryz 2013” ceremony.

In his speech at the event President Ts.Elbegdorj said “We worked with the BPLC to publicize the Nauryz holiday in Ulaanbaatar and to celebrate the event nationwide this year. Therefore, many Kazakh people across our country came to Ulaanbaatar and prepared the items presented at Sukhbaatar Square today to display their magnificent and intriguing culture and traditions, which were passed down through many generations. I want to wish all citizens of Mongolia all the best. Have a nice Nauryz holiday.”

The exhibition displayed Kazakh crafts and significant items from museums. The president visited both the handicraft display and the Kazakh cultural display.

The handicraft products displayed by Kazakh craftsmen in Sukhbaatar Square included Kazakh belts with silver ornaments; fox fur hats; ornaments with owl feathers; intricately embroidered colorful crafts; and vacuum-packed dried horse meat.

A Kazakh ger at Sukhbaatar Square housed an array of Kazakh cultural items, including traditional costumes, accessories, saddles, bridles, and household items, all of which were intricately decorated with magnificent designs.

Young Kazakh men performed traditional dances and youth played traditional Kazakh folk music at the event, delighting the audience.
