Outstanding artists perform at Virtuoso 2013 concert

The Virtuoso annual gala concert, which brings together the greatest and most outstanding performing artists of the year, took place on Saturday night at the Central Cultural Palace.

The concert opened with an impressive piano performance by a student from the Mongolian Music and Dance College, A.Aminzaya, who recently won the J.Chuluun International Musicians’ Competition.
Magnificent performances by Morin Khuur player N.Jigjiddorj, flutist G.Nyamjantsanm, oboe player O.Chinbat, and pianist U.Urtnasan followed. These artists presented pieces and compositions by Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Schubert.

Mongolia’s top opera singers G.Ariunbaatar, E.Ankhbayar, and B.Enkhnaran shone at the concert with fine performances of arias from famous operas by Puccini and Giordano. Modern dance group Nature Dance performed a spectacular dance.

The Altain Orgil band dominated the stage with a special performance of the epic song “Ode to Chinggis Khaan,” combining traditional folk music with contemporary music, played with the morin khuur, cello, and drums.

The highlight of the concert was stirring music by the Percussion Ensemble of the Music and Dance College of Mongolia. The ensemble of 16 musicians performed as one and greatly impressed the audience with their rendition of Jalam Khar, a famous Mongolian musical piece.

Mongolian renowned composer, two-time State Awarded Composer N.Jantsannorov remarked that, “The concert demonstrated the high level to which the classical arts of Mongolia have reached. I realised today, however, that Mongolia needs more excellent composers to compose fine pieces for these talented artists. Only three Mongolian works were performed in this concert.”

All in all, the audiences enjoyed the very short two-hour performance by the distinguished musicians, singers and dancers, and displayed their appreciation through long applause at the end.
