STATE HEAD MEETS PRESIDENT OF ICAO COUNCIL

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Tuesday, the President Ts.Elbegdorj received Mr. Roberto Kobeh Gonzalez, president of the ICAO Council who is with a working visit to Mongolia.

Mr. Gonzalez said that, together with a delegation he wants to get acquainted with activities of the related bodies of member- states and with results of two audit examinations conducted by the ICAO over flight safety operations of the civil aviation body of Mongolia. "This is a big examination for the Mongolian civil aviation, on the other hand, this is a respect the ICAO shows to the rise of the civil aviation's prestige," Mr. Gonzalez said.

World average indicator of the safety flight operations is approximately 57 per cent. Mongolia has achieved 88 points overall after the two audit examinations, thus has been ranked 15th in the world and among first five in Asia, which means that the Mongolian civil aviation is going well, and it is important to keep this achievement, Mr. Gonzalez stressed.

He went on that every year some one million people travel by air transportation so far in Mongolia, and this number is expected to rise to 1.6 million by 2016 due to intensive economic growth, so the air transportation should work hard to develop as such, he added.

Thanking Mr. Gonzalez for the visit, the President expressed satisfaction with the good results of the audit examinations, and underlined an importance of endeavor to construct the new international airport.

Ending the meeting, the President awarded Mr. Gonzalez a "Friendship" medal for significant contribution to developing of the collaboration between Mongolia and the ICAO.
