D.Altankhuyag: To contribute to Mongolian ballet I’ve invited “Komaki Ballet” to perform

Below is an interview with principal dancer of the ‘Boston Ballet’ Company, the State Honoured Artist D.Altankhuyag. He is about to perform in Mongolia with Japanese artists of the ‘Komaki Ballet’ Company.

-You have invited the world renowned ‘Komaki Ballet’ to Mongolia. Can you tell us more about the details?

-As a founder of the Mongolian Ballet Development Foundation I try to make my own contribution. This time I’ve invited the famous ‘Komaki Ballet’ Company dancers to contribute to Mongolian Ballet Art. Because of this I have to stay here longer than I am used to because I have to rehearse and prepare myself for the performance with great artists.

-How many artists will perform in the dance event?

-Over 40 dancers of ‘Komaki Ballet’ are coming to Mongolia and this event will take place for the 40th anniversary of Mongolian-Japanese diplomatic relations. The ‘Komaki Ballet’ is an internationally acknowledged company whose former dancers work in world famous ballet companies and some of them even serve as directors of significant ballet companies.

-Around this time last year, you were performing the ‘Night of Ballet’ for Mongolian audience?

-Yes. The ‘Night of Ballet’ was performed on June 24-25th after ‘Swan Lake’ which I performed in with the artists of the State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. It was an extraordinary performance that improved Mongolian classic art thanks to the people and the organisations that support ballet art. A year after the ‘Night of Ballet’ was performed, a whole group of outstanding dancers is coming here to perform on the Mongolian stage on June 8-9th. The concert is being co-organised by the Mongolian Ballet Development Foundation and the Ministry of Education Culture and Science and the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia.

-How many years have you been working with the ‘Komaki Ballet’?

-Since 2001, when I won the first place in an international competition held in Japan. I have worked with ‘Komaki Ballet’ on over ten ballet performances so far over ten years. ‘Komaki Ballet’ has a magnificent history that introduced classic art not only to Japan but also to Asia for the first time. This company has been running for 60 years and became one of the world’s top companies. Four female dancers from Mongolia have performed in ‘Komaki Ballet’ before but it is the first time to organise such a big event in our country with foreign ballet dancers.

-Which ballets have artists of ‘Komaki Ballet’ prepared to perform here?

-They are coming here with two distinct ballet dances. I’m going to dance with them in the 3rd part of Sheherezada. In the second part they will perform a ballet dedicated to last year’s natural disaster that occurred in Japan and the first part will start with my own performance.

-How much will the tickets cost?

-Ticket prices will start from 20,000 MNT as I tried to reduce the original price by 50% to enable more people to watch our concert. That’s why the event will take place at the Central Cultural Palace though I would prefer performing in the State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The exact information about tickets will be revealed in the press conference.
