UB'S AIR POLLUTION MATTERS DISCUSSED IN WASHINGTON

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Ambassador of Mongolia to the USA Kh.Bekhbat has stressed that the economic growth of Mongolia is expected to reach 15 per cent this year, and it will increase to 17.5 per cent.

Mr. Bekhbat said it at a meeting named "Initiative on reducing air pollution of Mongolia" which was held on April 24 in the Embassy of Mongolia in Washington D.C. It was co-organized by the Embassy and the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on occasion of the World Earth Day.

Mentioning that Mongolia has open and small economy depending on the mining sector, the Ambassador underlined an importance of balancing the economic growth and development with aims of improving the livelihood of people and protecting environment.

Reports on works of reducing air pollution in Ulaanbaatar were given by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the National Committee on Reducing Air Pollution in Ulaanbaatar, the "Fresh Air" project at the MCC, and the "Fresh Air" fund. This meeting brought together some 40 people from the U.S. administrative organizations, NGOs, research and scientific organizations, and private entities.
