Regent: Dorrance Dance Friday

It is the only film festival in the USA to focus specifically on bike travel -- in one night, you'll travel from Mongolia to India, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, and through Egypt during Arab Spring.

Social hour is from 6-7 p.m.; films 7-10 p.m.

Tickets for the benefit for MassBike are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

This year’s Grand Jury Prize is awarded to Asiemut, a film by French-Canadians Mélanie Carrier and Olivier Higgins. Asiemut is a beautifully-filmed account of the filmmakers’ bicycle journey from Mongolia to India. “While it was a tough decision due to the high quality of our entries, we thought Asiemut did a wonderful job of immersing the viewer into the culture and beauty of the countries they explored. The entire Festival Jury was inspired by the film,” says Festival Director Karin Turer.

Lauren Hefferon, CEO of title sponsor Ciclismo Classico, says of the festival, "Our goal for the evening is to inspire people to go beyond their neighborhood and familiar routes and truly explore by bicycle. We feel these films are the sort that will make viewers feel like dropping everything and setting off on an adventure."

Other featured films include Take a Seat – Egypt, which follows filmmaker Dominic Gill through Egypt in the months following the Arab Spring. The Cyclo Diaries is an irreverent view of Vietnam from aboard a "Cyclo" (bicycle rickshaw), a vehicle completely unsuitable for long-distance cycling.

In addition to the films, the festival offers a "cookie showcase" featuring the many independent bakeries of Arlington. The well-loved Great Jersey Giveaway will also return, with free bike jerseys offered as door prizes for attendees. One lucky attendee will leave with a very special Grand Prize: one space on a Ciclismo Classico “More Miles for Less” tour – with a retail value of $2,600.

FESTIVAL MISSION STATEMENT

The Festival’s mission is to celebrate Bike Week 2012 and to inspire attendees to explore by bicycle. Whether across the globe or a few towns away, there’s nothing that recharges and expands horizons like bicycle travel. The Festival will increase awareness and appreciation for bicycle travel by showcasing independent films that depict the adventure, humor, and growth inherent in two-wheeled journeys. The World on Wheels is the ONLY film festival in the USA that focuses specifically on bicycle travel.
