COMMUNITY OF DEMOCRACIES SETS UP WORKING GROUP

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ In accordance with a decision of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies (CD), a new working group--Network for Leaders Engaged in New Democracies (LEND) has been set up.

This group has become additional one to the seven working groups who are in charge of certain matters and directions and it is also the very first group created within the presidency of Mongolia in the CD. The United States and Estonia will co-chair a Working Group within the CD to support the LEND Network. It was reported on Tuesday by Hillary R.Clinton, the US Secretary of State, and Urmas Paet, the Foreign Minister of Estonia.

The LEND working group's main objective is to connect leaders who have successfully navigated the challenges of democratization with leaders in emerging democracies based on experience of the Club de Madrid, the world's largest forum of democratically elected former presidents and prime ministers, and the latest technologies of the world's biggest IT companies such as Google and OpenText. Thus, the LEND's activities and measures will run commonly through online ways.

Mongolia has expressed a willingness to enroll the LEND working group.
