Conference addresses development of sports in Mongolia

A national conference on developing sports in Mongolia was held in the Government House on Thursday under the sponsorship of Prime Minister S.Batbold. The theme of the conference was “New Trends of Physical Culture and Sports Development.”

The Government has issued more than 30 protocols to develop physical culture and sports since 2008, and has organized programs such as a “Dream Team” basketball game and “Children, Football, Future” soccer matches among secondary schools.

S.Batbold expressed his happiness that many children are participating in sports programs, and he said the Government is implementing many programs to develop sports. The Government has ordered relevant ministries to build or repair sports facilities at secondary schools by 2013. Also, sports facilities will be built in districts where older people can train for free.

The prime minister also noted that the Government has allocated MNT 4.5 billion to prepare athletes for the 2012 London Olympics. Eight sports arenas and five stadiums were built in the state in 2011, said S.Batbold. He also noted that a sports research institute needs to be established in the country and he asked relevant officials to address the issue.
