DP MPs blame MPP for delaying draft pension law

On Thursday, DP MPs P.Altangerel and S.Erdene told journalists that the MPP caucus has delayed discussion of a draft law on pension increases.

They denied a statement made by MPP caucus chairman U.Enkhtuvshin to journalists on Wednesday.

U.Enkhtuvshin said it was the DP caucus that was an “obstacle” to discussing the draft law on pension increases.

S.Erdene said DP MPs initiated the draft law in August 2011 and they allocated the necessary capital in the 2012 state budget. But S.Erdene said the Speaker’s Council has decided to postpone discussion of the draft law. He added that the MPP caucus has initiated a similar draft law on pensions.

P.Altangerel said MNT 23 billion is needed this year for correcting pension discrepancies between people who retired before 1995 and those who retired after. He said that figure would be reduced in future years, and eliminated altogether after ten or 12 years.

S.Erdene added that pensioners have complained about the discrepancies and lawmakers should not play politics with people’s pensions.
