Demonstrators deliver note of demands to Government

Demonstrators at Sukhbaatar Square on January 20 delivered a note of demands to the Government.

Representatives of the demonstrators, headed by Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU) President S.Ganbaatar, delivered the note to N.Darinchuluun the head of the Cabinet Secretariat’s Monitoring and Estimation Department. The note makes three demands: to reduce the U.S. dollar rate against the tugrik; to decrease gasoline prices; and to improve citizens’ living standards.

N.Darinchuluun told our correspondent that the Government started working to reduce and stabilize gasoline and consumer goods prices on January 11. He said the Finance Minister heads a council that oversees implementation of a price-control program to stabilize prices and monitors the program. N.Darinchuluun stated his hope that the council will achieve positive results. He added that the department will reply to the note by the date required by regulations.

Demonstration organizers said a total of 40,000 citizens demonstrated across the country, and they noted that if the Government fails to reply to their note, trade unions will pursue their own means of achieving their demands.
