PM meets with aimag governors

The governors of all 21 aimags, the mayor of Ulaanbaatar, and the chairmen of Civil Representative Assemblies met at the Government House on December 15 to discuss the recently ratified 2012 state budget.

Prime Minister S.Batbold met with the governors and asked them to focus on improving management and accountability. He also called on them to complete unimplemented projects, and to verify completed projects with real data. He also asked them to improve research and monitoring in 2012, which will be the last year of the coalition government.

The premier also briefly listed some of the Government’s achievements and successes. He said the Government has intensely developed the mining, agriculture, and animal husbandry sectors. He said the state can now meet its domestic needs for wheat and potatoes, and the number of head of livestock has reached 40 million in the last ten years.

S.Batbold emphasized the need for the country to improve its citizens’ standard of living as the economy grows. He warned that many citizens complain to the Cabinet Secretariat about local managing officials’ failings and about bureaucracy. He also emphasized that the governors and managing officials in aimags must pay attention to infrastructure and construction projects in accordance with increases in investment in local settlements.

The meeting is continuing on Friday, when some ministers will meet with the governors and the chairmen of Civil Representative Assemblies to discuss future goals and the problems facing the countryside.
