HEALTH MINISTRY RECEIVES MEDICINES AND MASKS
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Ambassador of Japan to Mongolia Mr. Takenori Shimizu attended on Monday a ceremony of handing over 10,560 courses of Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) and 2,160 N95 masks to the Ministry of Health. Costing USD 220,000, these were received by a Vice Minister of Health Dr Tsolmon.
Apart of the Japanese Ambassador, present at the ceremony were also Dr. Luo Dapeng, an officer-in-charge World Health Organization (WHO) and other health officials.
The Japanese Government has established the special fund within Asia-Europe foundation to stock antiviral drugs and personnel protective equipment, equivalent to an amount of 31.9 million US dollar, and for stockpiling of a total 440 thousand courses of antiviral drugs.
"I hope that today's handover of antiviral drugs and personnel protective equipment have been supplied as a test for emergency delivery and contribute to the effort for crisis management in Mongolia" said Mr. Takenori. He expressed his appreciation to the leadership of Ministry of Health Mongolia for encouraging the vulnerable people to protect their life from emerging infectious diseases and zoonotic diseases.
Dr. Tsolmon thanked the Government and people of Japan for generous donation and noted that antivirals and personal protective equipment are essential for conducting rapid containment operation. She stressed that exercise to test logistic procedures is important part of public health emergency preparedness.
