Social Insurance National Council discusses pension issues

A meeting of the Social Insurance National Council is being held at the State Social Insurance General Office (SSIGO) on Thursday. Delegates are discussing an agreement that was reached between the SSIGO and commercial banks in December 2010.

On September 1, SSIGO changed the bank that processes pension and subsidy payments from the Social Insurance Fund. Critics, including the Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU), say that change violates the December 2010 agreement, and that all commercial banks should be allowed to process pension and subsidy payments.

The CTU also says the change is not in the best interest of citizens and violates the rights of pensioners.
