PM inspects public works projects

On Thursday, Prime Minister S.Batbold inspected projects designed to reduce air pollution and improve roads. First he visited Power Plant No. 2, which has started producing a cleaner-burning firewood. The state has allocated MNT 17 billion for the production of 210,000 tons of the fuel. The project will also create 150 jobs. S.Batbold praised the skill of the Mongolian engineers who initiated and implemented the project.

Then the prime minister checked the progress of a project to connect 160 housing units in Bayanzurkh district to a central heating system. By connecting the units to a central system, specialists say pollution in the capital will be reduced by at least ten percent. There are plans to connect more units in two micro districts to a central system, but that project has not been financed. S.Batbold promised to allocate MNT 3 billion in the 2012 budget to central heating projects.

Also on Thursday, S.Batbold inspected road works projects inside and outside the capital. HKB International is overseeing the repair of 6.7 km of roads, the construction of 6 km of new roads, and the building of the Narnii Bridge. After the bridge is completed, experts say traffic jams in the capital will be reduced. The prime minister said he was pleased with the progress of the projects, which he said were long overdue.
