1km of railway will cost $2.5 million

In the scope of the project, new railways from Tavantolgoi to Sainshand (468 km), Sainshand-Khuut (450 km), Khuut-Choibalsan (155 km), Khuut-Numrug (380 km), Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait (267 km), Nariinsukhait- Shiveekhuren (46 km) will be established. The feasibility study on the new railway project was executed by McKinsey and Company. The analysts of the company say the project needs USD 55 million of investment, primarily. The Government approved the Development Bank of Mongolia to solve the necessary investment. The company calculated that the base structure of 1 km railway needs USD 2.5-2.8 million. Thanks to the project, Mongolia will be able to transport 66 million tons of coal per year by 2020.

Kh.Battulga, Minister of Road, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development was obliged to implement the Tavantolgoi railway project.
