Mongolia Hosts “Ecopreneur 2011” Competition

An international green competition “Ecopreneur 2011” took place from 6th to 10th of June, in Ulaanbaatar. It is being supported by Global TIC organization who promotes the innovation in industry and the collaboration between academic institutions and the industrial enterprises.

The Ecopreneur 2011 is the first international and richest business plan competition for young entrepreneurs aged between 16 and 35, with the slogan “PLANET FIRST” to save the nature.

The mission of Ecopreneur 2011 is to add value to green economical development through exposure of the best teams, start up companies through their respective developed business plans on eco-friendly business.

The competition is designed to give collegiate entrepreneurs a real-world experience to fine tune their business plans and elevator pitches to be able to generate funding to successfully commercialize their products in the green business sector.

The competition included various events: international green business conference, prototype exhibition, gala dinner and memory keeping sub events and Mongolia tours. It brought together over 300 young entrepreneurs from more than 25 countries.

Altogether 33 teams from Argentina, Columbia, Panama, Indonesia, South Korea, USA, Taiwan, Philippines, South Africa, India and Mongolia competed in 5 nominations and presented their business plans on June 8th.

There were many interesting projects. For example, team from Khuvsgul province offered business without waste. The purpose of their project is to use the newest technology to recycle all types of plastic materials such as plastic bags and bottles.

The team from Argentina “Algae Liquor” intends to create diesel fuel. They instigate the idea to obtain diesel and petrol from algae.

The team from National University of Mongolia “Eco Discovery” innovated bio fuel from cow dung and manure that will decrease the air pollution and usage of forest wood.

The team from Columbia “iKono” invented a telephony product that is harmless to human health. Projects on ecotourism were presented as well.

The results of the competition were announced on June 9th. The following teams won the first place, with a reward of US$ 3000 each:

2. Social eco-entrepreneur /Ecopreneur/: team from Philippines
3. Recyclable business: team from Indonesia
4. Clean technology: “4 seasons”, Mongolia
5. Health friendly products and services: “M.G.H.D”, Taiwan

Best leadership - Best CEO – Ts.Erdenebileg, Mongolia, young leader who has best
management, team building and high profit making strategy
- Best inventor – Carolina Martinez, Argentina, young inventor who
create and develop unique eco-invention by eco Technology
- The Ecopreneur – Dmitrew, Panama, young entrepreneur who has best
demonstration and promoting abilities for real eco product or service
which is developed by his idea and are awarded with 1000 USD and
certification.
