European Mongolian Relations Blooming

The President of Mongolia, Elbegdorj Tsakhia, has received a delegation of the European Parliament led by Paolo Bartolozzi, head of the European Parliament’s Group for Central Asia and Mongolia.

“Mongolia has followed a path of democracy and market economy and become a regional guaranteeing justice and human rights.

Mongolia and the European Union, connected by the spirit of democracy, common values and commitment to peace and stability in the world, have been pursuing strong relationships and cooperation for the past twenty years,” President Elbegdorj said.

“We Mongolians extend our gratitude to the European Union for its consistent support for Mongolian democracy from its very beginning. Concluding the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement will not only bring the bilateral cooperation to a new level and open new avenues for bilateral cooperation but also provide a legal environment for all aspects of our relations.

We believe that we will sign the agreement within this year.” Furthermore the President of Mongolia asked the European Union to consider opening the Office of the Delegation of the European Union in Ulaanbaatar in the near future.

Mr. Bartolozzi expressed appreciation to the President of Mongolia for his warm reception.

He remarked that he is confident that the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Mongolia will be concluded shortly.

Mr.Bartolozzi mentioned how last year the President of Mongolia paid a welcome visit to the EU and that the EU will continue to assist and cooperate with Mongolia in the future. Some European Parliament delegates enquired about property privatization in Mongolia,

European-Mongolian student exchanges and the possibility of Mongolia receiving European. Mr.Batkhuu, Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Mongolia, Mr. Purevsuren, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia and other officials were also present at the meeting.
