ULAN BATOR, April 5 (Xinhua) -- A joint disaster management exercise between Mongolia and the United States started here Tuesday.

Mongolian Deputy Prime Minister M. Enkhbold said at a launch ceremony that Mongolia should strengthen its natural disaster preparedness as the country has experienced many natural disasters in the past years.

In 2010 alone, more than 30 earthquakes above 3.8 magnitude on the Richter scale were reported nationwide, he said.

The annual exercise, codenamed "Gobi Wolf," will last 11 days, and focus on personnel evacuation and rescue in schools and hospitals in case of disaster. A seminar on earthquake protection and disaster relief will also be held.

"Gobi Wolf" is designed to improve the Mongolian government's capacity to response and collaborate with other countries during natural and man-made disasters. It was first held in 2009.
