International organization to be established in Mongolia

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, D.Tsogtbaatar, answers a journalist’s questions.

In the ongoing three-day Asia-Pacific Policy Dialogue on the Implementation of the Almaty Program of Action and other Development Gaps faced by Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).

How will Mongolia gain from the meeting?

An international organization of land locked countries would be located in Ulaanbaatar, making Mongolia a center of international policy making. The meeting will issue an Ulaanbaatar Declaration, focused on the problems of Asian and Pacific countries, and this will be an important international document like the Almaty Declaration.

How has the Almaty Declaration helped in the development of infrastructure in Mongolia and in providing us transit transport advantages?

We have had some results including a decrease in transit transport tariff after talks with Russia. We want a further reduction of the tariff and also other concessions like storage facilities and customs preferences. The meeting is discussing problems of transit transport for land locked countries.
