Line of new railway approved
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ A direction of a new railway has been approved based on a preliminary technical and economic justification (TEJ), conducted by "Mongolian Railway" state-owned incorporated company, and on unified schemes of railway lines drawn up by the Administration of Land Affairs, Geodesy and Cartography. Now, advanced TEJ will be done in accordance with the railway line approved.
A report about it has been given by Kh.Battulga, the Minister of Road, Transportation, Construction and Urban Developmen. Present were also B.Makhbal, a head of the Road and Transportation Policy Department of the Ministry, Ch.Ganbat, advisor to the Minister of Transportation, and officials of the "Geo master" and "Eco Hydrogeo" companies.
In accordance with the research which took into account hills, rivers, lakes and soil, the new railway line will be 1,100 km long to run from Sainshand, Dornogobi province, to Choibalsan, Dornod province, through seven soums of four aimags, which coincides with vital mineral deposits of iron and uranium. It is expected that the "Mongolian Railway" company will execute the work of approving a draft map in a 1:100 000 scale for a basic structure of the first stage of the new railway.
Pursuant to a governmental resolution, the "Mongolian Railway" company has been allowed to construct the first stage of the basic structure. Related works have started to construct other basic structures, conduct geological and geodesy researches and environmental evaluation.
When the advanced TEJ is approved, the construction of the railway is expected to start this year's spring continuing for three years.
