World Bank to give fresh grant for kindergarten construction

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has revealed that Mongolia received USD29 million as a non-repayable grant from the World Bank for its project on public education. The money has been used to repair 60 secondary schools, 25 hostels and some kindergartens. Some primary education expenses were also met with the grant money. Mongolia was excluded from the project a year ago when its per capita GDP exceeded USD1,000.

A recent meeting in Madrid attended by Minister Yo.Otgonbayar reviewed the situation in Mongolia and agreed to give a fresh one-time grant of USD12 million to build 150 ger kindergartens and 40 normal kindergartens. This gtant has been incorporated in the budget for 2011. The formal agreement will be signed early next year, and construction will then begin.
