"Law on mineral resources must be amended"

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ At the initiative of the Presidential Office of Mongolia and in co-operation with Mongolia's National Mining Association /MonNMA/ and Mining legal research fund and assisted by the World Bank, a debate was organized Tuesday themed "Law on Mineral resources of Mongolia:Development and Tendency".

In the meeting that ran in the "Chingis Khaan" hotel were 200 officials representing Presidential Office, parliament, Government, ministries, agencies, provincial leadership, courts, NGOs, civil movement, companies, also scientists and explorers.

In their reports some people underlined that they will support amendments to the current law on mineral resources. "It will greatly expand the content of this law and will free it from the role of mechanism which issues special licences. All matters such as ownership, geology, mining operations, environmental rehabilitation and mutual regulation of participant sides will be taken into account," they say.

In addition to it, the gathered noted that a need in a special independent court may arise, for a new juridical sphere of the mining has been created in the country.
