Assistant UN Secretary-General Chibber to Visit
The UN Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator and Director, Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific Mr. Ajay Chhibber will pay an official visit to Mongolia August 5-9 at invitation of the Foreign Minister G.Zandanshatar.
In accordance with the program, Mr. Chhibber will hold a meeting with the Foreign Minister to share opinions on Mongolia-UN relations and on a course of drafting a document "Frames of developmental assistance to be rendered from the UN to Mongolia in 2012-2016". He is expected to be received by D.Demberel, Parliament Speaker of Mongolia, to meet with L.Gansukh, the Minister of Environment and Tourism, and with Ch.Khurelbaatar, the head of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Government, to discuss an implementation of assistance programs and projects of the UNDP in Mongolia and further measures to be co-implemented by Mongolia and the UN.
Mr.Chhibber intends to take part in an introduction of the 3d national report on realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to be co-organized by the government of Mongolia and the UNDP, and a seminar themed "Issues on the MDGs' implementation and on reducing poverty and ensuring gender equality".
He is supposed to get au fait with various projects in Ovorkhangai called "Civil registration", "Adequacy of legal service and human rights", "Sustainable management of lands" and a program while being for two days in Ovorkhangai, with this aimag's Emergency Department, and to meet with herdsmen.
Mr. Ajay Chhibber worked before at the World Bank for almost 25 years on a range of development issues, managing its programs in Vietnam, Turkey, Macedonia, and in Indonesia and the Pacific.
He was the lead author of the seminal work on Governance at the World Bank and the 1997 World Development Report on the Role of the State. He has published widely including five books on economic development and many articles in international journals and in major newspapers. He has a Ph.D from Stanford University, a Masters from the Delhi School of Economics and has worked at the Indian Planning Commission and at the International Food Policy Research Institute. He has also taught economics at Georgetown University and the University of Delhi.
